Putting on Christ Series 11/18/11

November 18, 2011 11:08 pm "Salt"

"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men."

Matthew 5:13

King James Version (KJV)

Merriam-Webster online defines salt as "a crystalline compound NaCl that consists of sodium chloride, is abundant in nature, and is used especially to season or preserve food or in industry...an ingredient that gives savor, piquancy, or zest." My mother once made this rice. Ugh, I thought as I ate it. The rice was actually rice and chicken. It was very bland. There was no taste. I definitely did not enjoy it. A bland Christian is not enjoyable either. We can spice up our surroundings in a positive way, helping each other, being courteous towards another. We need to be an effective Christian. My King James Bible Life Application sums it up best, "If a seasoning has no flavor, it has no value. If Christians make no effort to affect the world around them, they are of little value to God. If we are too much like the world, we are worthless. Christians should not blend in with everyone else. Instead, we should affect others positively, just as seasoning brings out the best flavor in food."
